The Gautrain system has 24 train sets, each consisting of four cars designed to run at an operational speed of 160 kilometres per hour. Of the 96 rail cars, ten are specially customised for use on the airport link, and contain additional features such as extra luggage space and wider seats. The other 86 rail cars are designed for commuter services.

The final design of the rail cars was done at the Bombardier plant in Derby, UK. Fifteen cars were manufactured and assembled in Derby, whereas the assembly of the remaining 81 cars was done at Union Carriage Works in Nigel, South Africa.

A perfectly situated farm with just the right climate and soil quality was selected in the Koelenhof area, within the Stellenbosch Wine of Origin region of the Western Cape. Coincidence provided an appropriate name. The farm’s original name was Nooitgedacht, which for five generations belonged to the Beyers family before Jan Andries Beyers sold it in 1895. Beyers Truter is a direct descendent of Jan Beyers, thus making him the sitxh generation to farm this land.

This piece of land could only have one name – BEYERSKLOOF.

Today Beyerskloof is South Africa’s top selling, most popular and loved producer of bottled Pinotage and renowned for producing excellent multi-award winning wines of character and virtue. We have a passion for Pinotage and an infatuation with the land, life and friendship.

Klein Constantia

Klein Constantia lies on the narrow Cape Peninsula that juts into the South Atlantic ocean, some 20 kilometers from Cape Town. Set amid trees and lush greenery on the slopes of Constantia Mountain it has frequently been described as one of the world’s most beautiful vineyard locations. The estate’s history dates back to 1685 when Simon van der Stel established the first working vineyard in Southern Africa and named it Constantia. In 18th and 19th century Europe, Klein Constantia became legendary for its iconic sweet wine, Vin de Constance which was enjoyed by the likes of Napoleon Bonaparte, Charles Dickens and Jane Austen. Today the estate boasts an historical Cape Dutch homestead, a collection of award-winning wines and a tangible link to a time long passed.

Early in November we’re celebrating the approaching Summer with the likes of the FNB whisky Live Festival 2-4 November at the Cape Town International Convention Centre. Showcasing more than 180 local and international whiskies, this is bound to impress connoisseur and novices alike. www.whiskylivefestival.co.za

An exhibition not to miss is the Zapiro: Jiving with Madiba Tribute at the South African Jewish Museum. Jonathan Shapiro and Nelson Mandela were both hugely influential in shaping the South Africa we know today. This exhibition is a celebration of these great men. The Labia Theater is an institution in Cape Town and hosts a myriad of film festivals, special screenings and cult classics. In celebration of “Old Hallows Eve” there is a horrorfest event running currently at the theater. The screenings include short films, a live movie soundtrack performance, new and rare Indies and movies you will not see on the big screen anywhere in SA. Marc Lottering and David Kramer are two well known veterans in the entertainment industry. They have joined forces for the hilarious musical comedy, “Some Like it Vrot”, set in the Southern suburbs of Cape Town. This production will give you a witty insight into contemporary South African diversity. Running 14- 19 November at the Baxter Theater. www.baxter.co.za

From the Baxter to one of Cape Town’s other famous theaters, Artscape, we move onto a more serious production. “The Beneficiary”, showing from the 1st – 5th of November is the story of an elderly Xhosa man whose only son died and now finds himself thinking about a worthwhile successor. On the music front, Cape Town has something for every kind of taste. The array of concerts and live shows include some local favourites as well as international acts.

Janet Jackson will be gracing our shores on the 15th of November wither her Number Ones, Up Close and Personal Tour. She will be performing songs from her 35 Number One Hits. The show is at the Grand Arena and tickets can be booked online at computicket. www.suninternational.com

Our own local diva, Karen Zoid is teaming up with the very talented Vusi Mahlasela. This unison of talent should produce a legendary show. For lovers of Classical or Orchestral music, City Hall presents the Summer Celebration Concert on the 26th of November.
